Infrastructure Engineer
WorkOS — Tracked from its ashby job board
About the role
About WorkOS 🚀
WorkOS builds modern developer tools and APIs that make it easy for companies to become Enterprise Ready. Our platform powers authentication, identity, authorization, and other critical infrastructure that developers need to securely scale their products to large organizations.
We recently raised a $100M Series C, valuing the company at $2B, led by Meritech and Sapphire with participation from Greenoaks, Craft, Abstract, and Audacious. WorkOS powers enterprise features for many of the fastest-growing AI companies, including OpenAI, Cursor, and Perplexity, Vercel, and Plaid.
As AI reshapes software, WorkOS is at the frontier of Human and Agent Authentication, Identity, and Access Control—helping companies answer a new critical question: who are your agents, and what are they allowed to do? Our fast-growing customer base includes hundreds of modern software companies building the next generation of enterprise-ready products.
About the Infrastructure Team
The Infrastructure team powers the core systems behind the WorkOS platform. We build and maintain the foundation that keeps everything running smoothly—handling millions of requests, operating at scale, and ensuring our systems are fast, reliable, and always on for our customers.
Our team works across the stack and partners closely with teams throughout the company. We regularly step in to support high-impact projects, contribute architectural perspective, and ensure systems are built to scale. If you’re curious by nature, motivated by complex challenges, and enjoy working across infrastructure layers—this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for engineers who are excited to work on foundational systems and enjoy collaborating across the stack. You might be a great fit if you:
- Bring a generalist mindset and are comfortable working across infrastructure layers—from compute and networking to storage and databases
- Enjoy thinking through architecture and infrastructure design, and can balance trade-offs between simplicity, scalability, and reliability
- Are curious and proactive, with a strong desire to understand how systems work end-to-end
- Partner well with product engineering teams to design systems that are reliable, scalable, and easy to operate
- Care deeply about observability, reliability, and performance, and treat them as essential to the user experience
- Work independently, take ownership, and follow through—from identifying a need to shipping a solution
Responsibilities ✔️
- Design and maintain the distributed systems that power core parts of WorkOS
- Write and optimize backend services in TypeScript, with attention to performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Evolve our use of AWS and Infrastructure as Code to scale systems intelligently and sustainably
- Partner with product engineering teams to ensure systems are built with reliability and scale in mind
- Build internal tools and shared infrastructure to support engineers across the company
- Participate in our on-call rotation—responding to, resolving, and learning from production incidents.
- Contribute to technical design reviews and architectural discussions
- Document your work, share context, and help level up the team through thoughtful collaboration
- Bring a spirit of curiosity—experimenting, iterating, and helping us find better ways to build and operate our systems
Qualifications 🌟
- 5+ years of experience
- Experience designing, building, and operating infrastructure or internal platform systems
