About the role
About The Role:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking an Advanced Concepts Engineer to be based out of one of IDT’s offices. This person will work with a fast-paced team of mission-focused engineers by working with and developing cutting edge technology to solve customer problems. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.
The selected Advanced Concepts Engineer will be responsible to turn customer’s goals and needs into solutions. The Advanced Concepts Engineer possesses the background and skills to apply cutting edge technologies to new problems to rapidly define options and communicate both with customers and IDT designers. This Engineer will work with product teams to develop and deploy solutions, and continuously revise and improve those solutions with evolving capabilities and user feedback.
The ideal candidate will have skills applicable to distributed systems, cloud-based deployment, test and evaluation in digital environments, and applying Agentic AI or LLM solutions to novel problems. A strong familiarity with presentation/visualization methods to communicate and understand results is ideal. The candidate will learn IDT’s technologies and how to apply them to Customer products to accelerate the pace of development, test, deployment, and in-service upgrade.
Clearance & Location Requirements:
All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 4 days in the office, based out of our Arlington, VA, Mount Laurel, NJ, or San Diego, CA location.
What You Will Do:
Develop test/data algorithms for reducing instrumentation and data streams to meaningful quantification of system actions, behaviors, and outcomes
Architect System-of-System solutions from IDT’s integration technologies to provide novel solutions to rapidly evolving problem spaces
Evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all functional and program interfaces
Apply advanced systems/software technologies and principles to develop innovative solutions for in-service and next generation complex software systems
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to rapidly define, design, develop, integrate, and deploy tactical and test systems
Perform analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture
Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions
Communicate directly with customer and users to understand need and drive cross-functional technical issues/challenges to closure
Who You Are (Required):
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, other STEM field, or equivalent full-time professional experience
3-5+ years of relevant experience
Experience defining new solutions with new and existing technologies, creating loosely coupled system solutions which promote rapid evolution and re-deployment
Ability and interest in the logical, systematic conversion of program requirements into viable technical solutions
Mathematical and communication skills to understand whatsystem users and testers need to make decisions and do assessments rapidly and accurately
Understanding of System Engineering and Software Engineering best practices. Ability to communicate with customer Subject Matter Experts and understand their processes and designs.
Ability to apply analysis to systems, data, and processes to determine if exhibited Behavior is expected
Understanding of the activities described by the Systems Engineering V-Model
Ability to work on-site with potential hybrid flexibility
Ability to travel approximately 10%
What Makes You Stand Out:
Knowledge of modern AESA or DBF radar designs, distributed Kill Chains and Combat System, and management of distributed data for decision making
Ability to create Agentic AI workflows and LLM prompts to accelerate turning data into decisions, accelerate system design, and facilitate rapid trade studies and product decisions
Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering/Model Based Software Development using SysML or UML
Demonstrated knowledge in related disciplines (e.g. Software Engineering)
Familiarity with Agile development processes
Experience developing or testing large, complex systems
Experience implementing algorithms in C++, Python, MATLAB or other languages
Systems Engineering experience with system integration, verification, and validation testing
Experience designing and testing complex SW systems, especially DoD Systems or large distributed SW Solutions
Experience performing test and integration, applying best engineering practices, and developing test methodologies
Experience with data visualization and presentation. Understanding of data instrumentation and data reduction techniques to use data to communicate system performance
Experience and proficiency with Requirements Management tools (e.g. DOORS)
Experience identifying and describing software interfaces
Ability to perform concurrent assignments and adapt to changing priorities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong Team-centric execution and coordination skills

Pay Range*: $90,000 - $150,000 or $114,000 - $184,000 *Pursuant to New Jersey Senate Bill 2310 IDT is required to disclose the “pay scale” or “pay range” associated with a job posting. Notably, however, this amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
