What You'll Do

As a Principal Software Programmer of the Media Services team, you'll provide technical leadership for the platform powering real-time voice communication across Fortnite and the Epic Games ecosystem at massive scale. You'll help set the technical direction for Epic's WebRTC-based products and implement features from design through final delivery.

In this role, you will

Work on the WebRTC integration across different Epic Games teams, design and hands-on implementation of new features

Design, develop, and continuously improve our WebRTC client and server stack across platforms

Investigate and evaluate new technologies to drive innovation in real-time communication services

Drive timelines, resolve technical blockers, and deliver with a high degree of autonomy

What we're looking for

Highly proficient in C++, with a strong command of performance-critical systems

Deep understanding of WebRTC signalling concepts, protocols, and architecture

Proven experience in debugging and optimizing WebRTC stacks at scale

Experience designing and maintaining C APIs for broad platform distribution

Familiarity with build systems like GN and Ninja

Demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver complex, long-horizon programming projects

Strong communication with a track record of cross-team alignment and technical decision-making

Leadership experience is a plus

This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA, NYC, & WA).

Pay Transparency Information

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
New York City Base Pay Range
$214,089 $313,997 USD

California Base Pay Range
$235,498 $345,397 USD

Washington Base Pay Range
$214,089 $313,997 USD
