Software Development Engineer, AWS Directory Service

About the role

AWS Directory Service is a fully managed service that allows customers to set up and run directories in the AWS cloud, or to connect AWS resources with their existing on-premises Active Directory. It’s a high-scale, highly available distributed system supporting sub-second latency micro-services to a large growing customer base. We support the scale of millions of requests per second and the service needs to be always available. As a managed offering, we take care of building and maintaining a secure, complex, highly available directory topology for our customers to easily manage their users, groups and resources. We also facilitate automated monitoring, fail-over and recovery, along with automated patching, updates and replication. As part of the AWS Identity organization, we are pioneers in areas such as identity, access management, security and providing massively scaled, distributed platform capabilities to all of AWS. Key job responsibilities Key job responsibilities • Design and implement core identity infrastructure components including control plane APIs, data plane execution environments, and deployment orchestration systems • Design and implement scalable, highly available services • Develop monitoring, observability, and operational tooling to ensure production reliability and enable rapid incident response • Contribute to technical strategy and architecture decisions for session management, identity/permissions, cross-account access, and security integrations • Mentor junior engineers and drive engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and operational best practices About the team Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience - 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
